Flooding possible from tomorrow due to heavy rainfall

(Patria) - The Sava River Water Basin Agency has issued an important warning to citizens and institutions for the period from July 2, 2024, to July 3, 2024.

An increase in water levels is predicted due to new significant rainfall in most of the Sava River water basin in the FBiH, especially in the catchments of the Bosna, Sana, Drina, and Tinja rivers.

Flash floods and urban floods are possible in the catchments of the Sana, Sanica, and Bliha rivers, on the right tributaries of the Bosna River downstream of Sarajevsko polje, and in the catchments of the Gostović, Krivaja, Liješnica, Usora, Spreča, Drinjača, and Tinja rivers.

Extraordinary hydrological conditions are predicted for the next two days, especially in the area of:

The lower and middle parts of the Bosna River basin (on the right tributaries of the Bosna River downstream of Sarajevsko polje, in the catchments of the Gostović, Krivaja, Liješnica, Usora, Spreča rivers), the catchments of the Sana and Sanica rivers, and the catchments of the Drinjača and Tinja rivers.

The notice on the forecast of extraordinary hydrological conditions applies to the area of municipalities in the Una-Sana, Zenica-Doboj, and Tuzla Cantons.

“We suggest that the competent institutions monitor the situation on the ground and act in accordance with their authorities, and we recommend increased caution to the services implementing measures and activities for the protection and rescue of people and material goods,” the Agency stated.

“Competent civil protection services should warn the population about the danger of approaching riverbanks, given the possible increase in water depth and flow speed in the rivers, and provide them with timely information with instructions and guidelines, so that the population can take self-protection measures in time, in order to reduce damage from the harmful effects of floods,” the Agency warned.
