Classes suspended in primary schools in Krajina due to snow and power outage

(Patria) - Snow has caused problems in the Una-Sana Canton. Cazin is without electricity and Bihać has 30 centimeters of snow. The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of the Una-Sana Canton, Denis Osmankic, sent a notice to parents, students and employees in educational institutions in the canton regarding the suspension of classes.

As stated, the decision was made due to difficult weather conditions and problems with electricity supply.

"Due to the current situation regarding the power outage and heavy snowfall, classes in primary schools are suspended until conditions for work are met," the Ministry's notice states.

Officials said that the public will be informed in a timely manner about the continuation of classes, after the situation on the ground stabilizes and basic conditions for work in schools are ensured, writes RTV USK.ba

As announced on social media, Cazin was left without electricity after a 110 kV power line failure. Teams are on site working to fix the fault, and supply stabilization is expected.

As announced by the utility company Komrad, heavier snowfall began late last night, and in some parts of the city, the snow cover reached up to 30 cm.

"The winter service of JKP „Komrad“ d.o.o. Bihać has been continuously on the ground since last night and is constantly working to maintain the accessibility of streets and pedestrian paths within its area of responsibility, i.e., in the urban area of the city. By early morning, the main city roads, access to public institutions, and the busiest pedestrian zones were cleaned and cleared.

Traffic is currently proceeding without delays, but with difficulty. Waste collection is proceeding according to the regular planned schedule, with exceptions regarding the entry of waste collection vehicles into risky and difficult-to-access driveways", they stated.

They add that due to the weight of the snow cover, a larger number of failures in public infrastructure have been recorded.

The company asked citizens for additional caution and to avoid moving and staying under trees, as well as in the immediate vicinity of the power grid.
