Doboj Sports Hall Renovated

The renovation of the main sports hall in Doboj was completed last week, which will revive indoor sports as well as physical education classes for high school students. The sports hall was renovated within the EU Programme for Flood Recovery, and it is part of the Secondary School Centre where renovation works on school premises were completed in mid-September to enable the start of classes, the EU Delegation to BiH announced, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

The value of the entire investment is almost 1.2 million euros. The sports hall is of great importance for Doboj, whose citizens are known for their sports enthusiasm.

- Doboj lives its sports life in this hall. We host all major sports events here, from handball and volleyball to martial arts competitions - says Spasoje Vasiljević, director of the Doboj Secondary School Centre.

Thanks to EU funding, the hall has been completely renovated, including a new parquet floor, electrical and water installations, as well as stands and changing rooms. The hall is also home to the local Handball Club Sloga, a multiple champion in various competitions throughout its history. This hall is where winning strategies were born and developed, a place where they trained and played matches.

- This hall has been of key importance for the development of handball in Doboj since my beginnings in the 1970s, when it was built - says Goran Stojić, a member of the Sloga Management Board.

- The timing of the renovation is simply perfect, as it is getting cold to hold training sessions on the outdoor court - concludes Stojić.

Stojić is also the coordinator of the youth teams who hope to continue the glory of their predecessors. Sloga's juniors are excited to be able to return to regular activities and practice their skills.

- We have been eagerly awaiting this moment. We are glad that our training sessions will continue in the new hall - says Mladen, one of the juniors.

The EU is participating in the post-flood recovery of Doboj with over 3.8 million euros.

- Given the scale of the damage suffered in the May floods, Doboj is high on the list of beneficiaries of the EU Programme for Flood Recovery financial assistance. Our assistance is focused on the renovation of school and preschool institutions, health institutions, private homes, and local roads - says Andy McGuffie, spokesperson for the EU Delegation to BiH and the Office of the EU Special Representative.
