Day of Liberation and Municipality Day of Kalesija Marked: 'Younger generations must know what kind of struggle was waged at the beginning of '92.'

(Patria) - A ceremonial parade through the streets, laying of flowers at the Central Memorial and holding of an academy marked May 23 - the Day of Liberation and Municipality Day of Kalesija.

Delegations from the Municipality, Municipal Council, Second Infantry Ranger Regiment of the Armed Forces of BiH, the Government of TK led by Prime Minister Irfan Halilagić, as well as the Assembly of TK laid flowers and wreaths at the Central Memorial.

Representatives from the Municipality of Sapna, veteran organizations, organizations of martyrs' and fallen soldiers' families, disabled war veterans, political parties, the non-governmental sector, sports collectives, and numerous citizens were also present.

After paying tribute to the martyrs and fallen soldiers of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a formal academy was held in the hall of the Bosnian Cultural Center "Alija Izetbegović".

The municipal mayor, Nermin Mujkanović, delivered a fitting address on the significance of May 23, recalling the historical importance of this date for Kalesija and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- Today, we recall historical facts that we must never forget so that younger generations know what kind of struggle was waged at the beginning of 1992 and what a sacrifice our heroes made in defending not only Kalesija but also the state of BiH - said Mayor Mujkanović.

He emphasized that May 23 is a day of remembrance of the heroic resistance and struggle of the members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also an opportunity to talk about the development, projects, and future of Kalesija.

Speaking about the implemented projects, Mujkanović highlighted the good cooperation with the Government of TK, which has provided approximately 2.5 million KM for the area of Kalesija through various projects and budget allocations in the past period.

He also emphasized the support of the Government of FBiH, which allocated about 1.2 million KM for projects in the municipality, as well as the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of BiH, which supported projects with approximately 200,000 KM.

In gratitude for the support in the development of the local community, Mayor Mujkanović presented the Prime Minister of Tuzla Canton, Irfan Halilagić, with a special recognition for his exceptional contribution and support to the development of the Municipality of Kalesija.

Congratulating the citizens on the Day of Liberation and Municipality Day, Prime Minister Halilagić stated that the Government of TK wishes to share the commemoration of the most important historical dates with local communities, especially those that remind us of the people who gave their lives for the freedom of BiH.

- The Government of Tuzla Canton continuously supports the balanced development of all local communities. In Kalesija, we have directed significant funds to education, road construction, and water management, and such support will not be lacking in the future - emphasized Halilagić.

The President of the Assembly of TK, Ivana Mijatović, emphasized that Kalesija has shown determination, courage, and combativeness throughout its history, recalling that Kalesija was the first liberated city in BiH during the aggression.

The President of the Municipal Council, Damir Džafić, also addressed the attendees, highlighting the importance of cooperation between the Municipal Council, the municipal mayor, and public institutions and enterprises in implementing projects that contribute to the development of the local community.

During the academy, Brigadier Faruk Ganić, commander of the Second Infantry Ranger Regiment of the Armed Forces of BiH, presented Mayor Mujkanović with a recognition for successful cooperation and support for the work of this regiment, congratulating the citizens on the 34th anniversary of the liberation of Kalesija.

Based on the decision of the Municipal Council of Kalesija, municipal recognitions were also awarded.

The "Medal with a Golden Coat of Arms" was posthumously awarded to Zuhdija Karić, and the recognition was accepted by his son.

"Plaques with a Golden Coat of Arms" were presented to Mahir Osmanović, Huso Đedović, and posthumously to Alen Majdančić, it was announced from the Municipality of Kalesija.
