Fifth anniversary of General Jovan Divjak's death marked

(Patria) - At the Bare city cemetery in Sarajevo today, the fifth anniversary of the death of the legendary general of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a hero and philanthropist, Jovan Divjak, was marked by laying flowers and paying tribute.

Divjak was one of the first organizers of resistance during the aggression against our country, and a synonym for multi-ethnicity, not only of our homeland but also of the Army of the Republic of BiH.

The Minister for Veterans' Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, Omer Osmanović, also laid flowers at Bare today, remembering once again a great man, a hero of the defense, and a philanthropist after the aggression against our homeland.

- We have suffered a great loss with the death of General Jovan Divjak, who indebted not only us but the entire Bosnia and Herzegovina. A soldier by profession, an altruist by conviction, Jovan Divjak left a deep mark on the lives of many people in our city.

He always spread the truth about the siege of Sarajevo, about the killing of civilians, about the destruction of our only Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He will be remembered as a soldier and a man whom everyone loved and who embedded himself in the foundations of our homeland, and for that, we send him a big thank you. May the Bosnian land be light upon him - said Minister Osmanović.

Jovan Divjak was born on March 11, 1937, in Belgrade, where he completed the 12th class of the Military Academy, a course for battalion commander, the Command Staff Academy, and the War School. He later completed the Staff School of the French Army.

He taught at the Military School in Sarajevo, and the aggression against BiH caught him in the duty of an officer in the staff of the Territorial Defense of RBiH.

He became a brigadier general of the Army of RBiH and assistant to the Chief of the General Staff of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He is the first recipient of the highest French order - the Legion of Honour from BiH.

He passed away in Sarajevo at the age of 84.
