Anniversary of Behudin Bašović's Death: Heroes Live Through the Deeds They Leave Behind

(Patria) - On the Kovači martyrs' cemetery in Sarajevo, a recitation of Yasin and a prayer were held today on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the death of commander and recipient of the highest wartime recognition "Golden Lily" Behudin Bašović.

Family members, comrades-in-arms, and friends gathered to jointly show once again that the heroes of our homeland are not forgotten and that we remember them with great reverence.

Today's tribute was also attended by the Minister for Veterans' Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton, Omer Osmanović, who said that hero Behudin Bašović exchanged his sports career for the trenches, defending our freedom.

- Behudin Bašović belongs to a generation of people who could have chosen an easier and safer path, but they chose to stand with their people and their homeland when it was most needed.

As a top athlete, he proudly carried the name of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and when the time came to defend the country, he transferred that same strength, discipline, and courage into the fight for freedom.

Today, when we talk about Behudin Bašović, we are not just talking about a war hero, but about a man whose life testifies to what honor, responsibility, and love for the homeland mean.

It is our obligation never to let such people be forgotten and to preserve the truth about their sacrifice with dignity - this was the message from Minister Osmanović.

Behudin Bašović was born on 25.09.1963 in Prijepolje. He was a civil engineer by profession.

As the commander of the Intervention Platoon of the Municipal Staff of the Territorial Defense of Stari Grad Sarajevo, he was killed on 14.05.1992 in the Vraca settlement of Sarajevo.

He was posthumously awarded the wartime recognition "Golden Lily" in 1994.
