33rd anniversary of mass crime against Bosniak civilians in Zvornik marked

(Patria) - Minister for Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sevlid Hurtić attended today the marking of the 33rd anniversary of the mass crime against Bosniak civilians from the Zvornik area.

A particularly poignant emotional moment was the walk along the symbolic "Death Trail of Klisa", the route along which in May 1992 many Bosniaks tried to flee from armed attacks, searching for a life-saving path.

Minister Hurtić visited the Memorial in Bijeli Potok, laid flowers and paid tribute to the victims of systematic crimes committed against the Bosniak population of Zvornik.

This place today symbolizes remembrance, but also a warning about the need for constant reminders of the truth.

- These are days of sorrow, but also of warning. It is our duty, both towards the victims and towards future generations, to preserve the culture of remembrance, speak the truth and build a society based on justice and mutual respect.

The Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees will continue to provide support to projects that contribute to preserving the truth, the dignity of victims and the processes of reconciliation in Bosnia and Herzegovina - said Hurtić.

The commemoration was attended by families of the killed, representatives of domestic and international institutions, associations of war victims, representatives of religious communities and numerous citizens who, by their presence, expressed solidarity and jointly reminded of the importance of memory and truth.
