JABLANICA, (Patria) - The 26th anniversary of the suffering of 33 members of the Croatian Defence Council (HVO) and six civilians was marked at Stipića livada in the municipality of Jablanica. Numerous delegations, as well as families of the victims, laid wreaths and lit candles in front of the memorial today.
After the members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina surrounded the village of Doljani near Jablanica in a military operation on July 28, 1993, the local population and local units of the Croatian Defence Council tried to escape towards Blidinje. During this event, 33 HVO members were killed, as well as six civilians. The remaining residents of the village, about 200 of them, were taken to Jablanica, where they were exchanged several months later.
