JAJCE, (Patria) – BiH Detainees Day, May 9, will be commemorated this year in the Jajce Municipality building starting at 11 AM with a Formal Academy. From 12 PM to 1 PM, there will be a screening of the film “Invisible Scars,” followed by a city tour from 1 PM to 4 PM (waterfall, catacombs, Old Town).
The Association of BiH Detainees brings together about 55,000 male and female detainees who were imprisoned in one of 657 camps during the aggression against BiH, and some were in multiple camps. The President of the Association of BiH Detainees, Jasmin Mešković, pointed out for Patria that the position of torture victims in BiH is poor, as best evidenced by the absence of the Law on the Rights of Torture Victims in BiH 24 years after the war.
Detainees are dissatisfied with state support, and it often happens that important dates from the period of aggression, such as camp closure anniversaries, are financed from their own funds. At such gatherings, detainees often lack support from political representatives.
“These dates are mostly commemorated by surviving victims and their families and friends. Those who should be in the front row, those who lead and represent us, are absent. There is also no Law on the Rights of Torture Victims in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Due to such a negligent attitude of institutions towards camp victims, there is a possibility that crimes will happen again,” warned Mešković.
