(Patria) - On this day, July 27, 1941, the peoples of BiH began their armed struggle against the occupiers and traitors during World War II. A series of activities and laying of flowers at memorial monuments will mark the 78th anniversary of the uprising of the peoples of BiH against the fascist regime.
Until 1992, July 27 was celebrated as a state holiday, Uprising Day, in honor of all those who gave their lives for the freedom of their country. Today, anti-fascist associations preserve the memory of this historical moment.
The uprising of the peoples was first raised in Drvar, and on this day in 1941, this town, as well as Bosansko Grahovo, were liberated from the fascists. From that date, for the next four years, there was only one goal - the liberation of the homeland from occupiers and domestic traitors.
The town of Drvar was a free town for most of World War II. Drvar is also one of the heroic towns that produced 15 national heroes. This town was awarded the Order of National Hero. The uprising began at dawn with a fierce guerrilla attack by partisans on Ustasha units. Battles were fought all day, and in the end, the partisans achieved a great victory.
This victory paved the way for the formation of the so-called Drvar Republic. But perhaps an even greater success was the mass joining of people into partisan detachments. Drvar remained free for several months before strong German-Ustasha forces recaptured it. Partisans recaptured Drvar several times after that, finally liberating it in 1944.
