NS BiH without response about minute of silence at Croatia-England match

SREBRENICA, (Patria) - The Organising Committee for marking the 23rd anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in the UN-protected zone of Srebrenica from July 1995 sent an open letter to the world football governing body FIFA requesting that the Srebrenica genocide be appropriately commemorated before the start of the World Cup semi-final match between Croatia and England, reports the Patria agency.

- We invite you to mark the start of the first semi-final match with a remembrance of the Srebrenica genocide through a minute of silence or in another way, all with the aim of informing the world public about this horrific crime, and thus send a message of peace and a warning that Srebrenica should never and nowhere be repeated - the letter from the Organising Committee states.

When asked by the Patria news agency whether the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina had submitted a request to FIFA for a minute of silence at tomorrow's match, neither the president of the FA BiH, Elvedin Begić, nor the general secretary, Jasmin Baković, responded. From FIFA there is also still no answer as to whether the match between Croatia and England will begin with a minute of silence.

Across Great Britain, various events organised by Remembering Srebrenica will mark July 11, the Day of Remembrance for the Srebrenica genocide. The event in London will also be attended by the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Zvizdić. The Croatian Parliament also paid tribute to the victims of Srebrenica.
