New 4,200 refugees arrive in Greece: Help us, we are human too

Thousands of refugees continue to arrive on the shores of Europe, and the enormous wave of people fleeing war-torn areas is best illustrated by the fact that two ships carrying 4,200 refugees landed on the Greek coast just last night, reports the Patria news agency.

Both ships docked in Piraeus, and the newly arrived refugees continue the grim trends of recent months: just last week, 23,000 refugees arrived in Greece, a 50 percent increase compared to the week before, reported the European border control agency Frontex.

In total, 160,000 refugees have arrived in Greece this year, already surpassing last year's total number of people who decided to seek safety in Europe.

Greek authorities claim they lack the resources to accommodate such a large number of people and call on European leaders to act, while local humanitarian organizations say the government must do more.

"You have to help us, we are human too," one of the newly arrived refugees, Syrian teacher Isham, told Reuters last night, writes Index.
