The new Head of the European Union Delegation, Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, held a press conference today after submitting his credentials to the Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Mladen Ivanić, writes the BiH news agency Patria.
Wigemark stated that relations with the European Union are crucial for BiH. He emphasized the fact that 72% of BiH's exports were realized in EU countries during 2014 and that BiH citizens would benefit from EU membership, but progress in economic reforms is needed.
- When this will happen depends on the institutions and authorities of BiH and their speed and efficiency in implementing these reforms - said Wigemark.
- BiH is a wonderful country. People who come to BiH do not want to leave. You have people who are diligent and work hard, but BiH is facing socio-economic reform challenges. Neighboring countries have become members or candidates for membership, and BiH has yet to embark on that path - said the new Head of the EU Delegation in BiH.
He succeeded Peter Sorensen in this position, who has been reassigned as the Head of the EU Delegation to the United Nations in Geneva.
