Novi Grad Sarajevo calls on the Ministry of Education and the KS Government to end the agony of the school in Aneks and appoint a director!

(Patria) - The Municipality of Novi Grad Sarajevo calls on the Ministry of Education and the Government of Sarajevo Canton to stop the activities that have caused the agony of the school in Aneks, which has not had a director for a year, specifically since the term of the then director Omer Begović expired.

Due to the chaotic situation in this school, the parents of the students are outraged, as their children are suffering the most, as are the school's teachers. However, regardless of the dissatisfaction of parents and teaching staff, the Ministry of Education of Sarajevo Canton wants to impose its will at all costs and appoint a director against the will of the school collective, parents, and the local community.

The school was built in 2018 and started operating very successfully, but then the Ministry decided to ruin it, and for a year now, they have been holding the school in unprecedented agony.

Although the then director Omer Begović also applied for the public call for the election of the director of Primary School “Aneks”, which would have been his second term and for whom the Ministry initially gave its support during the director election procedure, as did the representatives of teachers, parents, and the Municipality, the KS Government, for reasons known to them, refused to give consent for the appointment of the school director, referring to events that occurred in the school “Grbavica 1” where Mr. Begović was previously the director.

We note that the relevant Ministry has never had any objections to the work of Director Begović, who successfully completed the process of establishing the Primary School “Aneks”, which functioned very successfully during his term.

However, by not giving consent, at the proposal of the School Board and by not carrying out the procedure for appointing an acting director, the agony of the school begins, which is left without a responsible person from April 2023 to October 2023, when an acting director is finally appointed.

A new competition for the election of a director was announced only in October 2023, which has not been concluded to this day, although the voting took place in November 2023, and after the Ministry determined that the candidate who received the support of parents, teachers, and the Municipality was not to their liking, they refuse to complete this process and appoint a director, thus keeping the school in agony.

Due to all of the above and the absence of an authorized person, Primary School “Aneks” is the only school where new free textbooks for students from 1st to 4th grade have not been procured. The school's parents, disappointed and outraged by the relevant Ministry's treatment of their children, contacted the Municipality of Novi Grad Sarajevo, informing us that the children will, for who knows what time, be “collateral damage” of such irresponsible behavior by the Ministry, which calls into question their trip on an excursion, seeking the Municipality's help to finally end the agony surrounding the appointment of the school director.

We believe it is high time for the Ministry and the KS Government to get serious and stop such irresponsible and arrogant behavior and neglect towards the students of this school, their parents, but also towards this local community and school, which is motivated solely by political reasons, because unfortunately, through schools, to the detriment of our children, they are trying to appoint suitable directors, which has been unprecedented so far in the area of Novi Grad Sarajevo.
