Novi Grad Sarajevo: Construction of city water supply network for several hundred buildings in Rječica settlement begins

(Patria) - The Mayor of Novi Grad Sarajevo Municipality, Semir Efendić, and the Director of the company "Mibral", Maja Bralović Smith, signed an agreement today for the construction of the "Reljevo 2" water reservoir, which will supply water to the residents of the Rječica settlement.

By signing the agreement, the conditions have been met to begin the construction of the city water supply network for several hundred residential buildings that do not have water from the city water supply system in their homes.

Mayor Efendić explained that this involves the construction of a reservoir, i.e., a new water supply system in the Rječica settlement with several hundred residential buildings, where a small part of the lower area of the settlement has the city water supply network, while the rest of the settlement is supplied with water from the so-called local water supply, which lacks sufficient water for the residents for most of the year.

- Until now, we have been helping the residents by having the Civil Protection of Novi Grad Municipality refill the reservoir once a day, but it would empty within a few hours, and that is what the residents of Rječica settlement had.

So, this is the beginning of the construction of the city water supply network for several hundred buildings. It is currently the largest settlement in Novi Grad that does not have a city water supply network - said Mayor Efendić.

He added that this project is the result of many years of efforts by the Municipality of Novi Grad Sarajevo to find an adequate solution for the residents of the Rječica settlement so that they finally have access to the city water supply network.

The signing of this agreement was preceded by numerous activities in previous years, primarily efforts to resolve the project documentation itself and position the reservoir, which is now located on Kobiljak hill between the local communities of "Dobroševići" and "Reljevo".

- This is the Municipality's proposal, as an optimal solution, considering that the regulatory plan previously envisaged the construction of two reservoirs in the Krivoglavci zone, from which Vogosca and parts of Novi Grad would be supplied.

However, as this is very far and much more expensive, we sought a solution without the need for a supply pipeline longer than five kilometers, which was eventually accepted by KJKP "Vodovod i kanalizacije" and the KS Planning Institute.

Based on this, the project documentation was developed, and urban and construction permits were issued. This will resolve the water supply for 80 to 90% of the buildings in the Rječica settlement that currently do not have city water.

The value of the framework agreement is 1,200,000 KM. The reservoir is the most important facility in the system, but it will be necessary to build a pumping station, a supply and distribution pipeline for the system to be fully functional.

This is good and welcome news for the residents, as the construction of the city water supply network for this large settlement in Novi Grad is finally beginning" - stated Efendić.

Director Bralović Smith emphasized on this occasion that the company "Mibral" has many years of experience in the construction and implementation of similar projects and that the construction of this reservoir is a complex undertaking.

- For the company "Mibral", which has 47 years of experience in carrying out similar projects, this is still a fairly large and complex facility. We are pleased to participate in its construction and to start building a complete system.

Our project scope primarily includes the construction of the reservoir, and after the conditions are met and the contractor is engaged, the work will begin very soon. We hope that, depending on the weather conditions, we will complete this part of the construction as soon as possible - stated Bralović Smith.

The value of the contract is 900,000 KM, and it includes the execution of preparatory and earthworks, excavation of the construction pit, laying of drainage pipes, concreting of water chambers and valve chambers, laying of supply and discharge pipes, waterproofing works, i.e., the construction of a complete reservoir with a capacity of 1,000 cubic meters of water.
