New German Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina is Alfred Grannas

(Patria) - On 13 August 2025, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Alfred Grannas, presented copies of his letters of credence to the Head of the Department for Diplomatic Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mirsad Bešić.

Grannas previously served as ambassador to Pakistan, and has been with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1990.

He graduated in law and history from the University of Munich, and Ambassador Grannas began his professional career as a judge and district prosecutor in Bavaria before moving into diplomacy.

However, his diplomatic career began with roles as a UNESCO desk officer and first secretary at the German Embassy in Lima, Peru.

This is not Grannas's first experience in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He previously worked within the OHR, supporting international peace operations, and later as a advisor for Security Council affairs at the German Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

From 2018 to 2022, he served as German Ambassador to Norway, strengthening Germany's bilateral relations in Europe.
