Novak Đoković detained at Melbourne airport

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The drama surrounding Novak Đoković continues, and the world's top tennis player is being held at the airport in Melbourne.

Đoković was granted permission to play in the Australian Open with the help of a medical exemption issued by Tennis Australia, but upon landing at Melbourne airport, he was detained and denied entry into the country.

The reason is an incorrect visa application submitted by Đoković's team, as well as the fact that Australian authorities are seeking valid proof for the medical exemption. The Serbian tennis player was questioned by the immigration department, and the interview lasted several hours, concluding at 1:15 AM local time.

As it is currently night in Melbourne, Đoković will spend the night detained in an airport room in this Australian city, which no one is allowed to enter, nor can the Serbian tennis player leave, reports B92.

According to Novak's father Srđan, who spoke to B92, Đoković is currently in a room where no one is allowed to enter. Two police officers are stationed outside the room where the world's number one player is being held.
