Night of horror in Tuzla: Fire in the Pensioners' Home claims 11 lives, 30 injured

(Patria) - In a major fire that broke out last night around 8:45 PM on the seventh floor of the Pensioners' Home in Tuzla, 11 residents of this institution lost their lives, while at least 30 were injured.

According to initial information, among the injured are police officers, firefighters, medical workers, and Home employees who participated in the evacuation and assistance to the residents. All have received medical care at the University Clinical Center Tuzla.

The bodies of the deceased will be transferred to the Memorial Center Tuzla for identification and autopsy, and an investigation at the scene will be conducted once safety conditions permit. An investigation into the causes of the fire is underway.

Firefighters, with the help of colleagues from Srebrenik and volunteer fire departments from Tuzla and Gornja Tuzla, managed to contain the fire after a multi-hour intervention. Police officers, emergency medical service teams from Tuzla, and medical staff from health centers in Lukavac, Srebrenik, and Kalesija also participated in the operation.

The Mayor of Tuzla, Zijad Lugavić, has called an extraordinary meeting for this morning at 8:00 AM, where relevant services will present new information on the circumstances of the fire, the number of casualties, and the condition of the injured.
