No Dual Citizenship with Germany, SNSD Members Blocked Agreement in Line with President's Policy!

(Patria) - There will be no agreement between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Germany on dual citizenship, thanks to the members of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina from SNSD.

The initiative for the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina to initiate the procedure for concluding this agreement was adopted by the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the end of August last year.

However, the Ministry responded to Faktor that they immediately started activities to implement the initiative, but it was stopped in the Council of Ministers of BiH.

- On February 6, 2025, the Ministry of Civil Affairs received a notification of the conclusion of the Council of Ministers of BiH from October 23, 2024, which states that at the 61st session, held on October 17, 2024, the Council of Ministers did not reach the necessary consensus to task the Ministry of Civil Affairs with acting on the initiative in question - the Ministry of Civil Affairs responded to our inquiry sent on Friday.

According to the minutes of that session of the Council of Ministers, the Deputy Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of BiH and Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH Staša Košarac, Minister of Finance and Treasury of BiH Srđan Amidžić, and Deputy Minister of Communications and Transport of BiH Ognjen Janjić, who was authorized by Minister Edin Forto to replace him and decide on all points at that session, voted against.

This issue was not included in the press release after that session of the Council of Ministers of BiH.

The initiative regarding dual citizenship was proposed in the House of Representatives by the Speaker of the House Denis Zvizdić, considering that Germany adopted a new law that allows dual citizenship, which opens the way for citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina to no longer have to renounce their citizenship, and for tens of thousands of those who had to renounce their BiH citizenship to regain it.
