Nikšić with Fleming on the importance of achieving progress in the South Interconnection project implementation

(Patria) - Prime Minister of FBiH Nermin Nikšić met today in Sarajevo with the Director of the Office in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs of the US State Department, Mark Fleming.

The meeting was also attended by the Chargé d'Affaires of the US Embassy in BiH, John Ginkel, the Director of the Political Section of the US Embassy in BiH, Mark Rosenshield, and the Federal Minister of Displaced Persons and Refugees, Nerin Dizdar.

The central topic of the meeting was the implementation of the South Interconnection project, with Director Fleming emphasizing that this project is an opportunity to improve the security and political and economic stability of BiH.

During the meeting, which is one of a series of intensified meetings between representatives of the US administration and representatives of the authorities in BiH, the friendly relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United States of America were highlighted.

Nikšić stated that he greatly appreciates the support and assistance of the United States and the friendly relationship towards Bosnia and Herzegovina and its citizens. He conveyed that he sees the presence of the US and investments as a guarantee of additional security and a message to citizens that they should stay in this country.

Fleming confirmed the unwavering support of the US for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He highlighted two goals of the current administration: the stability and security of BiH, and increased economic cooperation through more projects, the most important of which is the South Interconnection project.

He also added that Bosnian-Herzegovinian leaders are expected to work on prosperity for all citizens in Bosnia and Herzegovina through cooperation.

Nikšić thanked for the US's activities so far in finding solutions for the South Interconnection project, assessing the US contribution as key to resolving this issue after several years of stagnation.

The interlocutors agreed that the South Interconnection project is of enormous importance for all citizens and the energy stability and independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that all actors need to undertake activities to realize the project as soon as possible.
