Nikšić after victory: No one is above the Social Democratic Party of BiH

SARAJEVO, (Patria) – Nermin Nikšić, winner of the election for the president of SDP BiH with 12,668 votes, told reporters tonight that SDP has continued to raise the bar of democratic standards.

“Another confirmation that elections are held in SDP in this way. We have chosen the harder path, we have chosen complete democracy. I want to emphasize that today there are no winners and losers. Today, SDP won. Therefore, every sincere and true SDP member should be proud. Thank you to all members who exercised their right today and voted in the internal party elections in SDP,” said Nikšić, thanking them for their support.

He called on all SDP members to maintain their dignity. 

“Do not gloat. There are no enemies in SDP, only people who think differently, and that can only be our wealth, not a burden,” said the SDP president. He said that the interest of the Social Democratic Party of BiH is above all else for him. 

“I have often been exposed to the temptation to respond to numerous attacks, I refrained, and I am glad about it today. My political ideal is democracy. There are no idols, no untouchables, no one is above the Social Democratic Party of BiH. I want to preserve the dignity of the party, the respect for every member,” said Nikšić.

He said that a standard has been established within SDP that decisions are not made by a small group of people but by party bodies, and he stated that it will remain so.

“We are proud that we inherit the tradition of anti-fascism. Whatever the majority decides, so it will be. I am proud that the vast majority decided today, that they confirmed the correctness of my, and I would dare to say, the correctness of the policy of the Presidency and the Main Board of SDP. Today, the majority said that we were right when we said 'no' to a coalition with SDA, HDZ, and SNSD. That we were right when we said 'yes' to the establishment of the BH bloc.”

He announced that the SDP Congress is ahead of them, where the policy for the next four years should be determined and a new composition of the Main Board should be elected, which will be able to respond to the challenges that will be before them on the political scene.

“We are continuing the initiated path of infrastructural strengthening of SDP throughout BiH with a special emphasis on the RS and western Herzegovina regions. Ahead of us is the continuation of personnel strengthening and refreshment in SDP. Financial strengthening of SDP is also inevitable, and I especially want to announce a stronger engagement of elected officials, mayors, and city mayors.”

He announced the strengthening and formalization of the BH bloc. 

“SDP has clear goals, a clear vision, and a clear mission ahead of it. The BH bloc in the period ahead for the local elections will be even stronger, it will not only be SDP and Our Party, and I am sure that after these two years we will certainly move towards victory in the next General Elections,” said Nikšić. 

Nikšić also congratulated his opponents on their results.
