Sarajevo Canton Assembly did not adopt the report on the work of the Health Insurance Fund: Poor management of 400 million KM

The Sarajevo Canton Assembly, at the continuation of its 8th Working Session, did not adopt the Report on the Work and Financial Operations of the Sarajevo Canton Health Insurance Fund for 2018. The extensive discussion held on this Report indicated the deputies' dissatisfaction with the work of this Fund in the past period. Its operations and the distribution of revenue to other healthcare institutions do not follow the actual health problems of the residents and do not meet their demands and needs.

As highlighted, poor and non-transparent management of the health fund of around 400 million KM has resulted in a deteriorating situation in the public healthcare sector. Good service and user satisfaction, not profit generation, are the key to the successful operation of all healthcare institutions, it was stated at today's session of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly.

The Report on the Operations of the KS Health Center also received a negative assessment, being labeled as the weakest link in the healthcare system, with a number of operational shortcomings and a decline in the quality of work of family medicine teams. Inadequate staffing policies, untimely public procurements, and a prolonged lack of laboratory reagents are some of the shortcomings recorded in the work of this institution.

The deputies of the Canton Assembly also did not accept the reports on the work for 2018 of the Institute for Addiction Diseases, the Psychiatric Hospital, the Institute for Student Health Protection, the Institute for Occupational Medicine, Sarajevo Pharmacies, the Institute for Sports Medicine, the Institute for Emergency Medical Assistance, the Institute for the Health Protection of Women and Motherhood, the Institute for the Health Protection of MUP Employees, and the Institute for Public Health of the Canton.

The Report on the Work and Financial Operations of the Public Institution General Hospital "Prim.dr. Abdulah Nakaš" was adopted at today's Assembly session.
