(Patria) – Support for the British Conservative Party in polls conducted before the European elections has fallen to 11 percent, which is one third of the result of Nigel Farage's Brexit Party.
Alarmed by the change in sentiment, representatives of the Tories and Labour have called on voters to support them in the European elections to be held next week.
The support result for Nigel Farage's Brexit Party is higher than the results of both major parties combined.
A poll conducted by Opinium for the British Observer showed that the Brexit Party is supported by 34 percent of the population, Labour by 21 percent, and the Conservatives by only 11 percent, which is a significant drop for the latter. Even the Liberal Democrats have slightly more support, at 12 percent.
The success of the Brexit Party, founded only last month, reflects the citizens' dissatisfaction with the way the government and parliament are trying to implement the referendum result, which has led Great Britain into a serious political crisis and significantly endangered the country's reputation in the world.
At a recent rally, Farage described Prime Minister May's Brexit proposal to his supporters as a 'document of surrender from a nation defeated in war'.
The Conservatives believe that Theresa May's indecisiveness regarding Brexit fuels populism, while the Labour leader in parliament, Richard Corbett, claims that 'Labour must go to the polls to stop the extremist far-right from representing Britain'.
Some moderate members of the Conservative Party believe that Farage should not be allowed to participate freely in the campaign because his policy is a 'policy of division'.
- It is a dangerous path for any democracy, and we know where it ends, in a deeply divided and weakened country. All of us who see the danger must oppose such policies whenever we have the opportunity, commented former Education Secretary Nicky Morgan on Farage's policy.
