New York experiences its toughest day since the start of the epidemic, 630 dead

(Patria) – In the American epicenter of the coronavirus infection, New York, 630 people died in just 24 hours.

This has raised the death toll from the epidemic in New York state alone to 3,565.

The infection is spreading 'like wildfire' on Long Island as well, Governor Andrew Cuomo said at a press conference.

Medical experts estimate that New York will reach the peak of the epidemic in a week, and it has been 'only 30 days since the first case, but it feels like an eternity,' as Cuomo put it.

The US has the highest number of confirmed coronavirus infections, with more than 300,000 testing positive, and over 8,100 have died.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the leading American infectious disease expert, estimates that the death toll from the epidemic could reach a staggering 240,000, an estimate that White House medical experts have also agreed with.

New York is the epicenter of the epidemic in the US, with more than a quarter of the deaths. Hospitals and morgues are struggling to cope with severe cases in intensive care, as well as with the burial of the deceased.
