Severe weather causes chaos in USK: Tens of thousands without electricity, most critical in Bihać and Cazin

(Patria) - Public Enterprise (JP) Elektroprivreda BiH d.d. Sarajevo, Branch Elektrodistribucija Bihać announced that power outages are caused by extremely unfavorable weather conditions in the form of intense snowfall.

Large amounts of very wet and heavy snow have led to extreme stress on the electricity infrastructure. Such weather conditions have caused serious mechanical damage and failures to transmission and distribution power lines, including stretching and breaking of conductors, their falling to the ground, and entanglement.



The conditions were so extreme that even concrete and iron poles broke, clearly showing the extent of the damage to the network. Additionally, failures due to falling trees and branches on power lines were recorded.

Bosanska Krupa, Bužim, and Velika Kladuša are currently without electricity due to failures in the power transmission network, which, according to Elektroprivreda BiH, is outside their direct jurisdiction.

Currently, about 50,000 users in the Una-Sana Canton (USK) are without electricity.

The most critical situation is in Bihać and Cazin, where the largest number of failures on the distribution network has been recorded, while Velika Kladuša, Bužim, and Bosanska Krupa remain without power due to problems with the power transmission network.



Power supply to parts of Bihać has been partially stabilized in the meantime by putting the 110/20/10 kV substation "Bihać 2" into operation.

All available measures have been taken to repair the failures and restore power supply. A total of 26 teams are engaged in the field, working continuously, with priority given to fixing failures on main power lines and in the most affected areas.

It is estimated that the majority of failures on the distribution network will be repaired by evening, however, some work will continue tomorrow.

Due to the extent of the damage and difficult working conditions, it is difficult to provide a precise estimate for the complete normalization of the power supply at this moment.
