(Patria) - Israel will decide for itself how to defend itself, stated Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday, as Western countries once again called on him to refrain from retaliating against Iran.
The US, the European Union, and the G7 group have announced that they are considering stricter sanctions against Iran, which they say will be imposed to calm Israel and persuade it not to respond to the Iranian attack, RSE reports.
Tehran launched hundreds of drones and missiles at Israel on Saturday.
Netanyahu met with British and German Foreign Ministers David Cameron and Annalena Baerbock, who visited Israel yesterday in an effort to prevent an escalation of tensions between Israel and Iran.
According to Netanyahu's office, he thanked his interlocutors for their support.
- I want to be clear - we make our own decisions, and the State of Israel will do whatever is necessary to defend itself - Netanyahu stated.
Cameron had previously said that it was clear Israel planned retaliation against the Iranian strike, which Tehran carried out in response to an attack that killed military officials at the Iranian consulate in Syria, for which Iran blames Israel.
After more than six months of war in the Gaza Strip between Israel and Hamas, which has raised tensions in the Middle East, diplomats are seeking ways to avoid a direct war between Israel and Iran.
Most of the Iranian drones and missiles fired at Israel on Saturday were shot down, and there were no casualties.
