(Patria) - The National European Party of Bosnia and Herzegovina (NESBiH) calls on the High Representative in BiH to urgently annul the conclusion of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska (RS) from November 27th on the formation of a committee for the marking of the unconstitutional holiday of January 9th, known as the "Day of RS", the party announced.
"The decision of the Constitutional Court of BiH from 2015 clearly established that the marking of January 9th violates the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina and RS, as it favors members of one nation while discriminating against other citizens. The Constitutional Court also emphasized that the official marking of this date represents a violation of the principles of equality and non-discrimination.
The governments of RS continue to institutionally mark this date, ignoring the decisions of the highest judicial institution of BiH. Such practice is not only discriminatory but also contributes to strengthening divisions and destabilizing the country, it is further stated.
NES, in its statement, also warns that the absence of a reaction from the High Representative to these decisions can be interpreted as weakness or tacit consent to unconstitutional actions.
"We call on him to act in accordance with his mandate, protect the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and prevent further violation of the equality of all citizens.
Decisions of the Constitutional Court of BiH are final and binding, and all levels of government must respect them. All citizens deserve to live in a society of equality, without fear of discrimination and disrespect of their rights", the NES statement reads.
