(Patria) - Bosnian-Herzegovinian tennis player Nerman Fatić has reached the semi-finals of the tournament in the Romanian city of Sibiu after defeating Russian Ivan Gakhov, ranked 161st on the ATP list, in three sets today (6-1, 2-6, 6-2).
Fatić won the first set in just 25 minutes, but then experienced an inexplicable drop in his game in the second. The Russian easily reached a 4-0 lead and tied the sets at 1-1 without any problems.
The Bosnian-Herzegovinian representative played confidently again in the third set, served excellently, broke his opponent's serve twice, and defeated the tennis player who is ranked about 50 places higher than him on the ATP list.
As last year's winner, Nerman Fatić is defending 75 ATP points, so he will significantly worsen his current position (217th place) if he does not repeat last year's success. In the semi-finals, he will face Hungarian Zsombor Piros, the first seed in the tournament and the 110th player in the world.
Our other tennis player, Damir Džumhur, will play for a place in the semi-finals today against Stefano Travaglia from Italy.
The tournament in Sibiu is played on clay for a prize fund of 73 thousand euros.
