
SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Sarajevo Canton Prime Minister Mario Nenadić spoke today by phone with the Ambassador of the United States of America to BiH, Eric Nelson, about the current situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic in Sarajevo Canton. The Ambassador and the Prime Minister agreed on the need for good leadership in these crisis situations, strengthening all forms of coordination between all levels of government with the aim of adopting harmonized policies and effectively managing processes.
Ambassador Nelson informed Prime Minister Nenadić that the aid that the United States of America will send to Bosnia and Herzegovina will be realized through United Nations agencies in BiH, through the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina as the coordinator, via the entities to cantons and municipalities. The Ambassador added that good coordination is very important in the entire process and that all legal procedures should be respected in that regard in order to prevent possible abuses.
Prime Minister Nenadić informed the Ambassador about the numerous measures taken by the Government of Sarajevo Canton and the Civil Protection Headquarters of SC in preventing the spread of coronavirus. In this regard, the SC Government has equipped new accommodation capacities for the isolation ward, introduced two additional laboratories for testing into the system, opened special accounts for the procurement of medical and sanitary equipment, as well as a fund to help the economy. In addition, the Government is actively implementing all measures and orders of the Federal Civil Protection Headquarters, and in parallel, it is adopting and implementing its own decisions as well as the decisions of the Civil Protection Headquarters of Sarajevo Canton.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister also informed the Ambassador about the measures taken to resolve the accommodation of the migrant population, about the protection of vulnerable categories of the population in Sarajevo Canton, and about plans for the next period. He emphasized that the Government of Sarajevo Canton and the Civil Protection Headquarters of SC also care for the elderly and sick persons to whom food and medicine have already begun to be delivered to their homes.
Prime Minister Nenadić thanked Ambassador Nelson for the assistance provided to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Sarajevo Canton, and offered the Government's assistance in protecting all citizens of the United States of America residing in the territory of Sarajevo Canton, as well as the Embassy staff.
Ambassador Nelson and Prime Minister Nenadić agreed to regularly exchange information on the situation in the Canton with the aim of jointly improving all initiated activities to combat this global problem.
