(Patria) - Eric Nelson, the US Ambassador to BiH, addressed the gathered believers and guests in Bosnian.
"I am happy to be at the opening of a mosque of historical significance. I am glad that people of all faiths are here today to witness the return of their Aladža. I am proud that after our initiative to reconstruct Aladža, Turkey and the citizens of Foča joined us to complete the reconstruction of this symbol of diversity and tolerance.
When we help preserve cultural monuments, the US shows how much we respect other cultures by protecting their traditions. Cultural monuments ensure continuity with the past and preserve cultural heritage for future generations. Cultural monuments endure as monuments to human achievements, and the Aladža Mosque should be a monument to resilience and reconciliation.
The history of Foča will not and should not be forgotten. We hope that the reconstruction of the Aladža Mosque will bring peace and recovery to all people in Foča. We all worked together to return Aladža to Foča. And we must do even more, we must work together to ensure a place for all people of all faiths, not only in Foča but throughout BiH," said Nelson.
