(Patria) - Renowned photographer Boris Trogrančić brings photos from a new trip of the beautiful Radimlja necropolis, on an early spring sunny day.
He was welcomed by cordial hosts, who always delight him with their kindness and hospitality, and he enchanted us with selected shots, writes Punkufer.
The Radimlja necropolis, one of the most significant and beautiful sites of medieval heritage in Bosnia and Herzegovina, is located near Stolac in southern Herzegovina.
"More than 130 stećci, monumental stone tombstones dating mainly from the 15th and early 16th centuries, are located in this area.
It is assumed that the necropolis was the cemetery of the noble Miloradović-Stjepanović family, one of the most influential families of medieval Hum.
Their power and status are visible even today through the size and rich decoration of the stećci, which remain as silent witnesses of a bygone era.
Radimlja is particularly known for its exceptionally rich reliefs carved into stone. On the stećci, one can see scenes of hunting, riders, knightly figures, crosses, rosettes, and various symbols whose meaning still sparks the interest of historians and archaeologists today.
The most famous among them is the motif of a man with a raised hand, a figure that has become one of the most recognizable symbols of medieval Bosnia over time," reveals Trogrančić.
What makes Radimlja even more special, adds this top photographer, is the way history blends with nature.
"The stećci are arranged in an open space, surrounded by the Herzegovinian landscape, so the light constantly changes their appearance throughout the day, emphasizing the reliefs, deepening the shadows, and revealing new details on the stone surfaces centuries old.
That's why the photos I take here are never quite the same. Due to its exceptional history and cultural value, the Radimlja necropolis is today part of world heritage.
It remains one of the most important places where one can feel the spirit of medieval Bosnia and understand the rich symbolism that shaped this unique cultural landscape," states Trogrančić.
