No Budget Rebalance for Sarajevo Canton, Young People Left Without Subsidy Difference for Apartment Purchase

(Patria) - The payment of the second part of subsidies for about 1,000 young people who qualified for housing subsidies will likely not happen.

Although a conclusion of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly from June specified that young people would receive an additional payment of the difference up to 10,000 KM (they were paid 4,800 KM each), after the adoption of the Budget Rebalance, nothing will come of it.

Asked about subsidies for apartment purchases for young people, Sarajevo Canton Prime Minister Nihad Uk told Klix that 90 percent that there will be no rebalance and that he does not believe there is money in the current budget to meet the demands. He stated that about 5.5 million KM is missing to pay the money.

"There are tens of thousands of young people who bought apartments before 2017 and did not receive a single mark," Uk said.

Young people have organized protests several times demanding that the promised money be paid to them. According to the public call from 2023, the amount of 10,000 to 12,000 KM was stated, which was not paid due to the large number of applicants.

Incidentally, no call was issued for 2024, and the budget allocated 500,000 KM for this purpose. In addition to young people being shortchanged the promised amount, there will apparently be no new public call either.
