New Hijri Year 1445 Begins

(Patria) - According to the Calendar of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the new Hijri year began this evening with the sunset prayer (Maghrib), and the 1st of Muharram 1445 AH is tomorrow, July 19.

The Muslim calendar is a lunar calendar, and its year is 10 days shorter than the solar calendar year. This method of timekeeping was adopted during the caliphate of Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, and the Hijra – the migration of Muhammad, peace be upon him, from Mecca to Medina – was taken as the beginning of the calendar.

The Hijra occurred in the year 622 AD.

At that time, the Prophet of God was forced to leave his hometown of Mecca with his companions, friends, for the sake of his faith and go to a place where he would not be in danger. He found refuge in the city of Medina, where he lived until his death.

The Hijra was the culmination of the sacrifices of Muhammad, peace be upon him, and his companions, who were forced to leave their homes for their faith. It was a turning point in the Prophet's mission and a pivotal moment in the history of Islam.

In our current times, sacrificing for the values of faith does not require us to leave our homes. On the contrary. Today, sacrifice is shown and proven by staying in our homeland, strengthening ties with the homeland and the community.

- The Hijra has its temporal meaning and significance, but also a timeless message and imperative. The temporal context and significance of the Hijra for the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and his companions, and the Ansar, are described in detail, and are described and spoken about anew each year. However, Muslims today in general, and Muslims of Bosnia and Herzegovina in particular, have not yet grasped the timeless message and imperative of the Hijra.

The Hijra in a broader sense means change and movement, and as a historical event in Islam, by which Muslims calculate their calendar, it does not refer to an individual, but to a collective, a people, and the Ummah. Change and movement are the two fundamental messages of the Hijra – stated the chief imam of the Islamic Community (MIZ) Jajce, Zehrudin-ef. Hadžić, for the MINA Agency.

He also conveyed that "The Hijra is a universal message about the principles of faith and the lifelong search for life's tranquility, which we find in the constant struggle for justice, regardless of dreams, because the meaning of a dream is not an imperative of life".

- And the Hijra is a reminder – that one must do and change something, and not just complain, talk a lot, and wait – because blessings are in movement and change – concluded Zehrudin-ef. Hadžić.

The Hijra is a journey from something towards something. It is not abandonment or escape; the Hijra is an elevation and completion, a transition to what is better.
