Session of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly Continues: Opposition Doubts Motives Behind Financial Obligations Register Law

(Patria) - The session of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly has continued, and within the discussion on the Proposal of the Law on the Register of Financial Obligations in KS, deputies requested information from the Minister of Finance, Afan Kalamujić, regarding the Canton's debt and financial situation.

Opposition deputies expressed doubts about hidden intentions behind the mentioned legal solution.

Marijela Margeta-Hašimbegović (DF) asked the minister for data on the Canton's debt in 2022, 2023, and its current debt.

- How much has the Sarajevo Canton borrowed since 2018, with the arrival of this government in KS, and how much has KS paid in penalties for loan realizations, asked deputy Mahird Dević (SDA).

The minister replied that the requested data, as well as information on penalties paid mainly for foreign debt, would be provided in writing, which caused dissatisfaction among the deputies.

Margeta-Hašimbegović expressed regret, emphasizing that citizens have the right to know information about the Canton's total debt.

- It is devastating for me that the Minister of Finance cannot provide this information to the public at this moment - she said.

Damir Marjanović also reacted, pointing out that the impression was created that the minister avoided the question, which, in his opinion, is not true.

- He said he would provide a written answer, so as not to give a general response - said Marjanović.

Dević and Mersiha Mehmedagić (NiP) had a heated discussion about the spending of the KS budget, imbalances, and debts.
