After three decades, Sarajevo Canton's property is no longer a secret: Government establishes public Register and online map

(Patria) - The Government of Sarajevo Canton today presented the results of establishing the Register of Movable and Immovable Property, which for the first time in the post-war period has introduced systematic oversight of resources owned by the Canton. The focus of the process is on protecting public goods, more efficient management, and ensuring that every resource, from land and business buildings to shares in companies, is functional for the development and direct benefit of the citizens of Sarajevo Canton.

Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton Nihad Uk emphasized that the establishment of this Register represents the introduction of order into an area that has been neglected for decades.

"We are determined to make public property visible and accessible to every citizen. This is a process that enables faster realization of capital projects and prevents any possibility of non-transparent disposal of common wealth. Our obligation is to ensure that property is not used for the interests of individuals, but exclusively for the needs of the community, either through new public facilities or through revenues that will be directed into the budget," said Prime Minister Uk.

Minister of Finance of KS Afan Kalamujić stated that a crucial step has been taken with the establishment of a register of all property, which will be publicly available via an online map.

"With this, we are introducing complete transparency in property management – from real estate to movable property and shares in companies. This includes significant resources such as land, forests, former catering facilities, business premises, and even apartments and entire geographical areas. Special attention will also be paid to property outside the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This is not the end, but the beginning of a systematic process: we are simultaneously working on regulating ownership statuses and actively managing property with a clear goal – to put every resource into function for the benefit of our citizens," stated Minister Kalamujić.

Chairman of the Working Body for Property Management of KS Dževad Paradžik presented concrete data on the activities so far. Out of a total of 224 bodies and legal entities that were obliged to submit data, 213 have fulfilled this obligation, while the remaining 11 entities need to finalize their submissions. Currently, 136 entities have been entered into the Register of Immovable Property, and 100 entities into the Register of Movable Property. It was emphasized that the accuracy of each piece of data is being verified under the supervision of the budget inspectorate and with the participation of the Office for the Prevention of Corruption, and that the heads of institutions are directly responsible for the timeliness and legality of the information.

Thanks to cooperation with the KS Prosecutor's Office and the Land Registry Office of the Municipal Court, 135 properties on which the Canton has ownership or disposal rights have been precisely identified. The Register covers everything from construction and forest land, business premises and shares, to movable property of greater value such as vehicles and artworks.

For security reasons only, the following legal entities have been excluded from the public publication of property data: the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP), the Office for the Prevention of Corruption, the Directorate for Commodity Reserves, and the KS Prosecutor's Office. Records of their property are, in accordance with security protocols, held by the aforementioned budget users and the Ministry of Finance of KS.

The link to access the public Register and interactive map will be available on the official website of the Government of Sarajevo Canton within the next 30 days, which will ensure continuous oversight of the Canton's property.
