After Mijatović, the Tax Administration also spoke: The situation with layoffs is 'regular', stable trend in the number of registrations and deregistrations

(Patria) - Director of the Employment Service of Canton Sarajevo Amina Džonlagić announced that from January 3 to 16, 1,171 newcomers were registered on the unemployment register, of which 1,153 were from employment, meaning these are exclusively layoffs.

"And we already have 955 applications for monetary compensation, which means that people who have been employed for at least eight months received layoffs, because that is when they qualify for monetary compensation," said Džonlagić.

The conclusion was that this is the first consequence of the decision on the minimum wage by the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, to which Minister Vojin Mijatović, the main initiator of the minimum wage decision, first reacted, followed by the Tax Administration of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

According to the records of the Tax Administration of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the first half of January 2025,
2,065 registrations for employment were recorded, while the number of deregistrations was 6,769. For the same period last year, 2,736 registrations and 6,105 deregistrations of workers were recorded. Regarding the Sarajevo Canton, 903 registrations and 1,834 deregistrations were recorded, while for the same period last year, 829 registrations and 1,801 deregistrations were recorded. These data indicate a stable trend in the number of registrations and deregistrations of employees, which has been present for several years.

“We have been recording a similar trend since 2017. The current figures do not show significant deviations, which allows us to conclude that there are no changes in the usual pattern of employee registrations and deregistrations,” said Admir Omerbašić, Director of the Tax Administration of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Director specifically emphasized that according to official records, deregistrations of workers from the education and public administration sectors dominate.

“From these sectors, in the first half of January 2025, 1,659 workers were deregistered, while last year that number was 2,313,” added Omerbašić.

It was also clarified that worker deregistrations in January are often related to the expiration and renewal of contracts, which is a common practice during this part of the year.
