The greatest wish of people with autism is to be able to have their teeth repaired under general anesthesia

The association "World in Pictures" from Zenica, which gathers parents and children with autism in this city, released hundreds of blue balloons from the plateau in front of the "Bosna" department store, in order to highlight the problems of children in BiH suffering from autism.

April 2nd is observed worldwide as the day for children with autism. Besides Zenica, this day will be marked in other larger cities in BiH.

The president of the association "World in Pictures", Bojan Radić, told the BiH news agency Patria that the problem still exists in BiH where children with autism are not yet fully accepted in society.

- Progress has been felt in BiH in the last few years, but society is still not fully involved in solving the problems of these children in the way it should be – Radić explained.

The association's goal is to maximally include children with autism in BiH in normal social flows, primarily to attend regular school. Radić said that progress is already being felt in several affected children who have started attending regular schools together with their healthy peers.

Parents of autistic children in Bosnia and Herzegovina are still condemned to fight for their loved ones on their own, helping them with school if they are able to attend classes, as well as with other forms of socialization. The number of support staff who can help in such situations is also very small.

Veselinka Moric from the Association of Parents and Children from the Autistic Spectrum Urdas Sarajevo said earlier that children with autism living in Sarajevo and other larger cities in BiH can say they have some benefits, but children from rural areas are condemned to spend their lives at home, without any opportunities that would make their daily lives easier.

- I think things could change significantly if there was just a little more will. We have been fighting for a long time for the state to allow people with autism to have their teeth repaired under general anesthesia, but no one is willing to meet us. That is one, among all other, big problem that burdens us – warned Moric, writes Patria.
