Lowest Temperature Ever Recorded in Croatia is -34.6°C

(Patria) - Although winter temperatures in Croatia rarely drop below -10 degrees Celsius, some records were set not so long ago.

For instance, in 1985, -33.4°C was measured in Zalesina (Delnice).

Temperatures below -30 degrees were also felt in Zagreb in 1940 and Vinkovci in 1963.

The last more extreme temperatures hit Croatia in 2012, when -26°C was recorded in Osijek, and in 2017, when Vrgorac recorded -15 and Imotski -12°C.

Of course, these are data recorded since the measuring station was established. Some date back to the beginning of the 20th century, so we are only talking about records from that period, writes Punkufer.

And do you know what the official cold record is? In January 2003, -34.6°C was measured in Gračac.

Although you may come across data for Gospić at -36°C or Čakovec at -35.5°C, the DHMZ states that these data were not measured according to the prescribed standards of the World Meteorological Organization.

Therefore, they are not considered official record lows in Croatia.
