At least nine dead in fire that engulfed a retirement home in Tuzla

(Patria) - At least nine people died in a fire that broke out in the evening hours at the retirement home in Tuzla, Istraga.ba reports.

Firefighting teams are on the scene and are trying to extinguish the fire that broke out on one of the floors of the facility, the Ministry of Interior of Tuzla Canton announced.

"To assist in evacuation and firefighting, members of the voluntary fire departments of Srebrenik, Živinice, Kalesija and Lukavac have been called, some are already on the scene (and some are on standby), as well as (for medical assistance) emergency medical services from the health centers of Srebrenik, Lukavac, Živinice and Kalesija," the Ministry of Interior added.

The fire occurred around 8:45 PM, and the cause will be determined later.

The police are also on the scene and are waiting for the fire to be extinguished so they can conduct an investigation.
