Protests Announced in Front of the BiH Consulate in Chicago

More than 20 Bosnian organizations in Chicago will organize peaceful protests in front of the BiH Consulate in Chicago on February 27, demanding the resignation of Consul General Brano Pećanac and other Consulate employees.

These 20 organizations have also sent a letter to the Vice President of the United States, Joseph Biden, informing him about the events that have caused outrage and disbelief among the BiH diaspora in the USA.

We remind you that the BiH Consul in Chicago, Brano Pećanac, attended a reception on January 9, Republic of Srpska Day, where he expressed support and gratitude for committed war crimes and glorified the genocide against Bosniaks, along with the Consul of Serbia in Chicago, Nebojša Aćimović. As stated in the letter, with this act, Consul Pećanac insulted all victims of the aggression against BiH from 1992 to 1995.

Therefore, BiH organizations and Americans of BiH origin feel obliged to point out the inappropriate behavior of BiH and Serbian officials.

- With this act, they clearly supported ethnic cleansing and persecution, and worst of all, Consul Pećanac himself admitted his involvement in the war destruction against Bosniaks. Most Bosniaks consider January 9 as the beginning of the aggression against BiH. It is even more tragic that the Serbian Consul referred to the Republic of Srpska as a state, emphasizing that there are no borders between Serbia and RS.

The BiH organizations in Chicago emphasize in their letter that "Bosnians and Herzegovinians in the USA deserve to be represented by a consul who will advocate for the multi-ethnicity and democratic principles of all citizens of BiH.".

A round table discussion on the topic "Ethnonationalism and Persistent Denial of Genocide" will also be held on February 27.
