SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Fahrudin Delić, a student of the First Bosniak Gymnasium, caught public attention a few days ago by winning a bronze medal at the European Physics Olympiad held in Latvia.
This modest teenager emphasizes that he expected a successful result but did not hope for a medal. He has focused his energy on preparations for the 50th International Physics Olympiad, which will be held next month in Tel Aviv. Certain funds were lacking for the talented physicists from Bosnia and Herzegovina to travel. These funds, by decision of the municipal mayor Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, will be provided by the Stari Grad Municipality, and Fahrudin will also receive a monetary award for his success.
"Our society needs such young people, and it is our obligation and duty to support them and reward their success, thus stimulating them to be even better. I wish Fahrudin and all our young physicists to continue proudly representing their country and achieving successes, and we hope they will delight us with a medal from Tel Aviv as well," said Hadžibajrić.
Fahrudin is a student of the First Bosniak Gymnasium, which has a special program of experimental work for young physicists, which has meant a lot to him during his schooling. He is not worried about the future because there are already universities ready to sponsor his education. However, as he points out, regardless of where he studies, they teach him at the First Bosniak Gymnasium to always return part of the knowledge and experience gained to his country.
"At the competition in Latvia, I had 15 points, while the first-place winner had 20. This is a great success for us, and this is the best year so far for the BH team of physicists. Our conditions are far more difficult compared to other competitors. Slovenia, for example, invests millions in this field, while in China they have a four-year camp where their best university professors prepare competitors, and I won't even mention Russia," Fahrudin recounted. Nevertheless, he emphasizes that in physics, sometimes the best working conditions are not as important as having knowledge and will, loving physics, knowing enough about engineering, and other things. The award he received from the Stari Grad Municipality will help him prepare for the competition and serve as pocket money.
"I was pleasantly surprised by the municipal mayor Ibrahim Hadžibajrić because I really did not expect this. I thank him for the award, as well as for the funds we lacked for the trip," said Fahrudin.
The departure of BH physicists to the International Physics Olympiad in Tel Aviv is organized by the Society of Physicists of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which has been organizing competitions for primary and secondary school students for over twenty years with the aim of developing our students' interest in science and technology, which are the cornerstone of modern society. In addition to Fahrudin, the Olympiad in Tel Aviv will also include Alen Mrdović, Muhamed Sokolović, Dragan Marković, and Nola Šegalo. The Olympiad will be held from July 5 to 15 this year.
