Mayor of Doboj: I will ask the Turkish Ambassador to continue helping BiH

The Mayor of Doboj, Obren Petrović, said that he regrets that Doboj sent a bad image to the people of Turkey, because a group of citizens opposed Doboj's admission to the Union of Municipalities of Turkey, which was supposed to attract new investors to this municipality in BiH.

Turkey sent significant aid to the affected citizens of Doboj during the floods that hit BiH last year, and after that, Doboj was admitted to the Union of Municipalities of Turkey. Membership in the Union does not carry any obligations, but it can help attract investors to the member municipalities.

The Serbian Orthodox Church, along with SNSD, criticized Doboj's admission to the Union, calling Petrović a traitor.

Petrović was not deterred, and said that he wants to thank the Union of Turkey and state that BiH wants good cooperation with Turkey.

- I saw that they are great friends of BiH and all our cities. Our minor disagreements should not affect our relations, and we must do everything to ensure that Turkey continues to help Bosnia and Herzegovina - stated Petrović.

Protests against Doboj's accession to the Union were also held in Doboj, attended by nearly 3,000 citizens. Petrović added that many people came from outside and that there are not that many people in Doboj who oppose accession to the Union.

- I will ask the Turkish Ambassador for support not only for Doboj but for the whole of BiH - said Petrović.

A meeting of the mayors of municipalities from the Federation of BiH and Republika Srpska that are members of the Union was held on Friday at the Educational Faculty in Travnik.
