Sarajevo Airport Hosts Simulation of Armed Attack, Hostage Crisis, and Abandoned Luggage - Explosive Devices

(Patria) - At Sarajevo International Airport, organized by JP Sarajevo International Airport and the BiH Ministry of Security, a methodological demonstration exercise titled "Simulation of an armed attack, hostage crisis, and abandoned luggage - explosive devices" was held today.



The exercise was led by the State Committee for Civil Aviation Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, headed by the Deputy Minister of Security of BiH, Ivica Bošnjak.



It was carried out in accordance with the new BiH Civil Aviation Security Program and the Plan of Measures for Crisis Situations Caused by Acts of Unlawful Interference, and within the framework of obligations prescribed by international standards and recommended practices of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).



In addition to the members of the State Committee for Civil Aviation Security of BiH, services of Sarajevo International Airport, members of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA), the BiH Border Police, and EUFOR participated in the realization of the exercise.



In the past period, the BiH Ministry of Security, by coordinating the work of officials from relevant institutions and agencies, has successfully begun to fulfill the obligations arising from the BiH Civil Aviation Security Program, and has adopted the document "Plan of Measures for Crisis Situations Caused by Acts of Unlawful Interference," which represents the first in a series of bylaws and operational documents to be adopted in the coming period.



Acting on the adopted Plan, the State Committee for Civil Aviation Security of BiH and the competent police agencies demonstrated a high level of readiness of the competent institutions, bodies, services, and agencies in undertaking measures, actions, and procedures within their jurisdiction during the exercise, with the aim of resolving the crisis situation, preventing further escalation, and reducing the consequences of unlawful interference, under conditions of threatened civil aviation security.
