Nermin Alešević to Attend Protests in Sarajevo

(Patria) - Businessman from Velika Kladuša Nermin Alešević has requested immunity from the BiH Prosecutor's Office to testify about corruption.

"Now it is up to them to decide," said Alešević, adding that he will come to Sarajevo on Wednesday for protests in front of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council.

"I hope that the citizens of BiH will also understand that we need a state of law for a better future for our children and our families," Alešević wrote on Twitter, reports Patria agency.

A scandal about the involvement of the President of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milan Tegeltija, in a corruption affair has reached the media. He was supposed to influence the then Chief Prosecutor of Sarajevo Canton, Dalida Burzić, to expedite a criminal case, while Marko Pandža, an inspector of the Agency for Investigations and Protection of BiH (SIPA), took 2,000 KM from businessman Alešević for this service from Tegeltija, noting that with that money he would "grease the wheels" for Tegeltija.

Tegeltija denies involvement in the affair, although a recording of the conversation between Alešević, Tegeltija, and Pandža has been released.

The Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dragan Mektić, has called on citizens to gather in front of the Court and Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo, in response to the corruption affair shaking the judiciary in the country.

"I will be at the head of this movement," Minister Mektić stated.

The protests are scheduled for Wednesday at 11:55 AM in front of the Court and Prosecutor's Office of BiH, which is also the seat of the HJPC.

The President of the HJPC, Milan Tegeltija, announced that he will move the HJPC sessions to another location if the citizens' protests are approved.

The HJPC is the umbrella judicial institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina that monitors the work of courts and prosecutor's offices in the country.
