8,372 trees to be planted at Jezero-Betanija site in memory of Srebrenica genocide victims

(Patria) - Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton Nihad Uk, Mayor of Centar Municipality Srđan Mandić, Director of the Sarajevo Canton Construction Institute Belma Barlov, Director of KJKP "Park" Adis Bešlić, and Director of KJP „Sarajevo-šume" Samir Omerović today signed the Agreement on the Implementation of the Project "8,372 Lives: Memorial Forest of Remembrance".

This project includes planting 8,372 trees in memory of innocent victims on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, and it will cover the Jezero-Betanija park area in Sarajevo.

The Government's obligations in this project are to provide financial resources through the Ministry of Communal Economy, Infrastructure, Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of Sarajevo Canton, and the Ministry of Economy, delegate a coordinator for the Project Implementation Team, ensure project supervision over legal acts through the Prime Minister's Cabinet, and coordinate activities.

Prime Minister Uk expressed gratitude today to the institutions involved in this project. As he stated, activities on implementation have already begun, the site preparation is underway, and planting will commence soon. He asked the participants for full efficiency so that planting is completed as planned.

Mayor Mandić and other participants expressed their gratitude for being part of the project.

This agreement was realized based on the Conclusion of the Sarajevo Canton Government, in relation to the Law on Special Programs of Sarajevo Canton for the Memorialization of Genocide, Support for the Return and Development of Srebrenica, Assistance to Victims and Families of Victims of Genocide against Bosniaks of the UN Protected Area "Srebrenica" Sarajevo, and the Decree on the Arrangement and Maintenance of Green and Recreational Areas in Sarajevo Canton.
