Kolinda on the list of women for UN Secretary-General

A lobbying group that wants a woman for UN Secretary-General has published an informal list of possible candidates. It does not include Vesna Pusić, who has announced her candidacy, but it does include Croatian President Kolinda Grabar Kitarović, reports the Patria news agency.  

The website womansorg.org has published a list of women in high positions with, as stated, excellent biographies and achievements. 

Thus, the list includes German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Federica Mogherini, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde, Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO, and Helle Thorning-Schmidt, former Danish Prime Minister.

The New York Times also published an article on this topic, stating that all previous UN Secretaries-General, eight in total, have been men, and questioning whether the time has finally come for a woman. Since the constant excuse is that there are not enough qualified women, the informal list of candidates should refute that. 

Ban Ki-moon is expected to step down as UN Secretary-General at the end of 2016.
