Zrinjski Facebook page calls for the destruction of the Old Bridge

A shocking photograph calling for the destruction of the Old Bridge in Mostar appeared on one of the Facebook pages of the Zrinjski football club, signed by the Fan Club “Ultras-Zrinjski”, reports the Patria news agency (NAP).

The administrator of this Facebook page posted on Thursday shortly after 12:00 PM a photograph of the damaged Old Bridge from 1993, in which a HVO soldier waves a Croatian flag. The description of the photograph reads „No more Velež nor the Old Bridge, the Ustashas destroyed it, come on Herceg Bosna...“. More than 350 people liked the photograph in less than 48 hours.

It is concerning that this is not the only nationalist message posted by the administrator of this Facebook page.

The Old Bridge is the famous bridge over the Neretva River in Mostar. It was built between 1557 and 1566, the work of the Turkish builder Hajrudin. During the bloody conflicts in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the bridge was destroyed by members of the HVO in November 1993.

After its reconstruction in 2004, the bridge was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is known as the main symbol of Mostar and Herzegovina.
