Bosnia and Herzegovina wins eight medals at European Sports Games for Dialysis and Transplant Patients

ITALY, (Patria) - The national team of transplanted and dialysis patients of Bosnia and Herzegovina participated from June 17 to 24 in the 10th European Sports Games in Cagliari, where they won eight medals. Tomislav Žuljević, president of the Association of Dialysis and Transplant Patients of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, said that four patients represented BiH at the largest gathering of this patient population in Europe.

Although the goal was to win at least one medal, the team took three medals in darts on the very first day of competition.

- In the following days, in bocce and athletics, we took another five, so we collected a total of 8 medals, which placed us in 17th place out of a total of 25 European countries that participated in these games - said Žuljević.

These sports meetings were also an opportunity for patients to exchange experiences in the field of healthcare and the treatment of dialysis and transplant patients.

- These games are dedicated to organ donors and their family members, those who, by giving themselves, gave us new lives. We hope that our participation in the European Sports Games for Transplanted and Dialysis Patients will contribute to increasing the number of patients who will start engaging in sports and sports recreation according to their abilities, which is ultimately very important for their further treatment - stated Žuljević. 

The next European Sports Games are scheduled for 2020 in Dublin, when a larger number of participants from BiH is expected.
