On this day 32 years ago, the Fifth Corps of the Army of RBiH was formed

(Patria) - On this day, October 21, 1992, the Fifth Corps of the Army of RBiH was formed by decision of the Presidency of BiH.

It included all soldiers and commanders from the disbanded Una-Sana operational group, which had all its infantry brigades, and parts of the reformed Bihać Territorial Defense District Staff, whose formations and responsibilities were reduced.

By the first order, Major Hajrudin Osmanagić was appointed commander of the corps, but he soon handed over the duty to Ramiz Dreković.

After General Dreković left for the position of commander of the 4th Corps of the Army of RBiH, General Atif Dudaković took over as commander of the Fifth Corps on November 1, 1993, and remained in that position for the rest of the war, until November 28, 1997.

Throughout the war, the Corps operated in very difficult conditions, in complete encirclement, opposing a double, and at one point a triple enemy.

Particularly painful for the people and members of the Fifth Corps were the battles fought against the secessionist forces of the AP of West Bosnia led by Fikret Abdić, who closely cooperated with the Serbian and Croatian military-political leaderships.

During the operation "Sana '95", conducted in the autumn of 1995, the Fifth Corps completely defeated Abdić's forces and liberated Velika Kladuša, defeated Serbian forces and liberated Bosanski Petrovac, Ključ, and Bosanska Krupa. At the end of that operation, in cooperation with the Seventh Corps of the Army of RBiH, it also liberated Sanski Most.

Due to the extremely difficult conditions in which it was formed and operated, as well as the results achieved, the Fifth Corps is considered one of the most successful and glorious corps of the Army of RBiH. Therefore, it earned the nickname "Heavenly Force" among the people.

Due to the great respect for the bravery of its soldiers, the 5th Corps was often called the 5th Army by foreign media present in the area during the war.

According to the documentation of the Fifth Corps, during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Corps' forces participated in a total of five operations.

Two members of the Corps, Adil Bešić and Izet Nanić, were posthumously awarded the highest army decoration - the Order of the Hero of the Liberation War.

Three brigades finished the war with the honorary title of Glorious (501st, 503rd, and 511th) and two as Knightly (502nd and 505th).
