The Asim Ferhatović - Hase Olympic Stadium, better known as Koševo Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium in Sarajevo. It was built in 1947 in the post-World War II period, in the area of the Koševo valley, which included the regions called Čurčića Vila and Pionirska Dolina.
Youth work brigades from the city and from across the then-country participated in the construction of the stadium. For the time, the city received a magnificent facility that could host top-tier sports events.
The stadium hosted significant and major matches for Sarajevo's top-tier clubs FK Sarajevo and FK Željezničar, as well as the then-Yugoslavia national team and the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team. Great football teams such as Manchester United, Real Madrid, Hamburger, Derby County, Bologna, Inter, Santos... visited the stadium. The stadium itself underwent many upgrades and reconstructions, the largest being before the XIV Winter Olympic Games in February 1984. In July 2004, renovation and improvement works began again at the Asim Ferhatović - Hase Stadium in order to obtain a UEFA license for European matches.
Today, the stadium is used by FK Sarajevo and is the largest stadium in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It has 35,630 seats.
The record number of spectators who watched the match between Željezničar and Sarajevo occurred on March 10, 1982, at the opening of the Koševo Olympic Stadium, when there were 55,000 in the stands, and the Bordo team won 2:1.
Incidentally, the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced that UEFA representative Nebojša Ivković, responsible for infrastructure projects, will visit the Football Association of BiH next week (from March 12-14).
Ivković will use the visit to tour Zenica, and the Sarajevo municipalities of Centar, Novi Grad, and Novo Sarajevo.
- Representatives of the aforementioned local communities will present plans for improving stadium infrastructure located in their local communities, as well as prospective locations for the construction of a modern stadium, it was announced from the Football Association of BiH.
